Department Committee Assignments

Committee Rosters as of: August 31, 2009

Curriculum/Catalog: Responsible for implementing curricular changes according to college and university procedures. Annually review catalog content including course statements, department information, program information, and prerequisites. Dale, Don, Carole.

Graduate Studies: Responsible for the development of the department's Master's program. Work with the Chair to implement the program as soon as possible. Henry, Owen, Don.

Library: An audit of existing chemistry holdings is needed including, journals, texts, references, and computer services. Committee will oversee the department's library budget and coordinate all book and journal orders annually. Committee members will be responsible for online access information and training. Carole (Chair), Jeunghoon, Brad.

Birthday: Committee will bring cheer (or torment) to individuals on their birthdays, including implementation of sweet treats, office pranks, and keepsakes. Jenny (Chair) , Donna, Laura, Sean, and the rest of the department as needed.

Tenure: Committee will evaluate and submit written reports to the department and college on the progress of all untenured faculty on an annual basis. These evaluations are to be discussed with each untenured faculty member. Untenured faculty will be asked to contribute documentation on their efforts in the three areas of evaluation: research, teaching, and service. Henry (Chair), Don, Gary.

Assessment/Outcomes: Committee with comply with the new university assessment and outcomes requirement. Karen (Chair), Jeunghoon.

Awards/Scholarships: Committee will coordinate and initiate student awards and scholarships. Eric (Chair), Owen, Brad.

Public Relations/Outreach (PROC): This committee will promote the department and keep contact with our alumni and emeriti faculty. Duties to include: working with university PR to promote efforts in the media, create newsletter (at least annually), gather department effort information (grants, papers, awards, outreach etc.), create dynamic website, keep department "in the news" within the university (A&S newsletter, university email and print publications), and update department displays and bulletin boards. Separately, the committee is tasked to bring the department's work to the public and community to promote chemistry and the department. Jenny (Chair), Karen, Henry, Donna, Sean.

Chemistry Student Club: Committee will work with students to create a dynamic and active club. Lynette (Chair), Henry.

Safety & Security Committee: This committee is tasked with oversight of departmental safety issues and procedures. The committee will also review items dealing with security and inventory procedures, as well as investigate violations and recommend corrective actions to the chair. Sean (Chair), Ken, Dee, Laura.
