Title: Next Generation Nuclear Power Plant

Abstract: The Next Generation Nuclear Power Plant is a demonstration prototype rector mandated by the EPAct 2005, that will provide the basis for the commercialization of a new generation of advanced nuclear plants utilize High Temperature Gas Reactor (HTGR) technology. NGNP will be used to demonstrate the technical, licensing, operational and commercial viability of HTGR technology for the production of industrial process heat, electricity and hydrogen. The EPAct also mandated that this reactor by licensed by the NRC. DOE is currently working with the NRC on developing a licensing framework to accommodate the licensing of this non-Light Water Reactor design. This presentation provides an overview of the project, technology development, schedule and funding profile, industrial applications of NGNP products and their impact on the National energy market stabililty.
