It is certainly reasonable to think of this question in terms of the energy of collisions and you are correct in thinking that if the energy is increased, the reaction should be more favorable. However, in this reaction there is something else other than just the energy of the collisions that drives the reaction...it relates to the energy of forming ions. What do metals do when they form ions?
