Chromium (named from chroma or color) is the 24^th element.  It is a very bright, silvery metal.  It forms compounds that are valued for their bright green, yellow, red or orange colors.  Ruby takes its color from chromium in the gemstone.  Chrome-steel alloys are noted for their hardness and resistance to corrosion.
