This answer is
not correct. You have the nitrogen electron pair attacking the methylsodium in
an SN2 reaction. Always think about the character of the
reactants...atoms attached to metals always have negative character! The carbon
atom of methylsodium has virtually a full negative charge and is not attractive
to nucleophiles. In fact, it is the best nucleophile (base) in the reaction
mixture. Now think about the character of the ethanolamine. What atoms have
positive character and which atom will react with the one mole of methylsodium?
