This answer is not correct but could logically be formed in this reaction. Aldehydes and ketones form imines because there is no leaving group on the carbonyl. This reaction proceeds on to form the amide because there is a leaving group (admittedly, kind of a bad one) and the end product...the amide...will have good resonance stability.
