This answer is not correct. Cations are not formed under basic conditions...you want to form anions. The only cations present are the metal spectator ions. I think that you remembered the intermediate formed in the acidic hydrolysis mechanism. Even on multiple choice exams, you should work out a mechanism on scratch paper and not try to go by straight memory...all of us get in trouble doing this.
